B.A.D. Ride Hits Big Time--We'll Be On The Air
Those of you who have been receiving our newsletters since their
inception, or have joined us on several B.A.D. Rides, will know the
B.A.D. Ride is continually changing but at the same time is
inflexible about its fundamental core values. So, how does
something change yet stay the same? While we have, for the last six
rides, started at the AMC at Interchange Way and finished at
Exhibition Place on Lakeshore Road, the route by which we travel
from beginning to end is quite different every year! Our poster and
brochure have a different look every year, but our message is the
same--the B.A.D. Ride seeks your support for Distress Centres. Our
t-shirt and bike bandana are different every year, but each year,
every registered rider receives them.
More importantly, our fundamental values and goals do not change.
Our objective is to raise money for Distress Centres. We ensure
that every dollar our riders donate to the B.A.D. Ride, whether:
- electronically through our secure website
- by money order or cheque sent in the mail to Distress
Centres
- by donations and registrations received at Hero Certified
Burgers this coming Sunday, May 13th
- at the Silver Dollar Room at the Kick-Off party on the
Thursday evening before the Sunday B.A.D. Ride
- at the registration tables on the Sunday of the B.A.D. Ride
...all go to Distress Centres. You, our riders and our supporters,
know that when you donate to the B.A.D. Ride, your donation goes
directly to Distress Centres--no professional fundraisers are
involved because we on the B.A.D. Ride team are all volunteers.
One of the principles guiding us is that we are "the riders' ride".
That is, we design our entire day around ensuring that motorcycle
riders, who share many common interests no matter what they ride,
will have a good day of riding and partying. We provide a
continental type breakfast in the morning and a superb barbecue
lunch in the afternoon, including refreshments, and we do not ask
you to reach into your pockets to pay* for food or drinks before
the ride begins and after the ride ends. We want our riders to feel
as if they're riding and partying with their friends, and friends
don't ask one another to pay them for a bottle of water, a can of
pop or a burger from the barbecue. We do that because all of us
involved in making the ride work are friends who have a common
passion--we really enjoy riding motorcycles, and we want to share
our passion with our friends, that is, with you who come out and
join us on the B.A.D. Ride.

Store at our halfway stop
WATCH FOR US ON T.V. AND LISTEN FOR US ON Q107
This year, for the first time, as a result of some tremendous work
done by our principal media sponsor, several different B.A.D. Ride
promotional public service TV commercials will be airing on local
television stations in the next couple of weeks leading up to the
B.A.D. Ride. We've been told those advertisements will begin
broadcasting after May 14th, and we're looking forward to seeing
the finished products! The creative group who've developed those
television spots really understand what we're all about--a group of
bikers raising money for a charitable cause--and they've assured us
that once we see what they've done we won't be disappointed. After
those advertisements have been released for broadcast, we'll put
them on our website ( www.thebadride.com ), so if you don't see
them on your television screen at home, you'll be able to watch
them at our website after May 15th.
Once again this year, courtesy of Pizza Pizza, Q107, and John
Derringer, Q107 will also be airing public service advertisements
promoting the B.A.D. Ride. We recognize we're a local ride, based
in the Greater Toronto Area, but we do attract riders from all over
southern, central and eastern Ontario, as well as from some of the
states around the Great Lakes. We think with the television and
radio advertising that is to start very soon we will reach that
next level of public recognition.
We value the public exposure our media sponsors have secured for
us, but, as you know, the best kind of advertising is word of
mouth. And it bears repeating--if you're getting this newsletter
it's likely you've been on our ride in the past and know something
about the B.A.D. Ride and Distress Centres. So, we urge you to tell
your friends, neighbours and family and anyone else you might meet
on the road in the next couple of weeks about the B.A.D. Ride and
how they, too, can join what we believe is the best one day
motorcycle charity ride in Ontario, if not Canada.
DEADLINE FOR DOUBLING YOUR DRAW TICKETS ENDS THIS WEEK
Whether you've been raising funds for the B.A.D. Ride, or have
decided you're content to just register without fundraising, great.
Either approach is just fine with us. But, if you are not going to
fundraise, then why not pre-register by the deadline of May 12,
2007 and double your draw tickets?! And if you have finished your
fundraising, get those funds and your registration forms to
Distress Centres by mail, postmarked on or before May 12th so you
can double the benefit you'll receive from having done fundraising.
There are two other ways you'll be able to pre-register and double
your draw tickets. You can register electronically at
www.thebadride.com by clicking Register and following the
instructions. The minimum registration amount is $50.00. If you
register electronically with a minimum donation of $50.00 before
12:01 a.m. May 13, 2007, you'll still be entitled to double your
draw tickets (for the funds paid to Distress Centres on or before
May 12th).
Or, the third way, is by coming out to Hero Certified Burger 6085
Creditview Road (at the corner of Creditview Rd. and Britannia Road
in the Loblaws plaza) in Mississauga, between 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Anyone who pre-registers for the B.A.D. Ride at that store will not
only double their draw tickets (it's like having your envelope
post-marked May 12th!) they will also receive a free upgrade to a
combo meal when they pay for just a burger.
DESIGNATED HALF-WAY STOP
When we planned our route this year, we listened to our riders who
told us they really enjoy the opportunity to get off their bikes
part way through the ride, stretch, get a drink or coffee, have a
snack, and talk to other riders. With that in mind, we decided
that a halfway stop in the picturesque, historic Hockley Village
would be ideal. Some of you who were with us on the first couple
of B.A.D. Rides may remember we had stopped in Hockley Village
during those rides too! The Hockley General Store has secured some
portable "potties", established a parking area to accommodate our
motorcycles, and will be set up across the road from the store to
sell cold drinks, coffee, pastries and light snacks to riders who
want some refreshment.
THE B.A.D. RIDE AND MERCEDES-BENZ CELEBRATE
10 YEARS OF B.A.D. RIDE T-SHIRTS AND SO CAN YOU
There were some three hundred riders registered for our first
B.A.D. Ride, and every rider that year, and each year thereafter,
received a B.A.D. Ride t-shirt. Well, in celebration of B.A.D. Ride
10, we encourage our riders to come to the B.A.D. Ride this year
wearing a B.A.D. Ride t-shirt from an earlier ride because
Mercedes-Benz is going to be awarding gifts to 10 randomly selected
riders who are wearing a t-shirt from a previous years' B.A.D.
Ride.
There will be spotters walking through the grounds at the Riders'
Party at Exhibition Place looking for people wearing B.A.D. Ride
t-shirts, especially from our earlier rides. The spotters will try
to find 10 people who are each wearing a different B.A.D. Ride
t-shirts until there are 10 people wearing a t-shirt representing
each B.A.D. Ride we've done from one through 10. The spotters will
advise them they've been selected to come up to the stage to show
their t-shirt. It's likely many of those t-shirts from the first
three or four B.A.D. Rides are hidden away in the far recesses of
your drawers or closets or perhaps have developed other uses. So
what!! If you've got an old B.A.D. Ride t-shirt and are prepared to
wear it in public, wear it when you come to B.A.D. Ride 10, and
maybe you'll be one of the riders selected to represent the year of
the B.A.D. Ride on your t-shirt and receive a recognition prize
from Mercedes-Benz.
The last couple of weekends have been great for riding, albeit a
tad cool, but so what. It's a great time of year to be out on your
bikes, so, ride safely.
See you on the road.
